Google is the most viewed website in the world. Google's worldwide market share (as of May 2011) was 82.8% showing most of the worlds of users rank it as their preferred search engine. Really, there is no other search engine close to competing. Yahoo! acts as Google's closest competitor but holds a minuet 6.42% market share compared to Google.

Even more astonishing Google holds a 92% market share (as of July 2011) in the UK, therefore it is imperative you optimise your website so Google can list it appropriately, relevantly and also rank it much more frequently and higher on the page. SEO is often about making on and off page modifications to parts of your website in order to improve your sites interaction – with both users and search engines. The following 10 tips will help you maximise your sites user experience and performance in organic search results:

1. Create unique, accurate page titles

Indicate page titles by using title tags that are relevant. Use titles that accurately describe the pages content and effectively communicate the topic of the pages.

2. Use 'description' meta tags to provide both search engines an users with a summery of what your page is about

You should make use of the 'description' meta tag in the HTML coding. This will give search engines and users a few sentences of what the page is about.

3. Choose a URL that will be easy for users and search engines to understand

A simple to understand URL will convey content information easily. This will lead to better crawling of your documents by Google.Create 'friendly' URLs that are easy to remember, visitors may be cautious of extremely long and cryptic URLs that contain few recognisable words. Short, concise URLs make it easy to remember, share and link from.

4. Improve your content! This should be a priority, regardless the type of website

Interesting sites will increase their recognition on their own. Users know creative and compelling content when they see it and your site will likely influence and direct others to it. You should broaden your range of services to include video, podcasts, news and social media.

5. Use relevant anchor text

Write suitable anchor text as it makes it easy to convey the contents linked. Avoid writing anchor text such as 'page' 'article' 'click here'. You should use anchor text that at least provides a basic idea of what the page linked to is about.

6. Heading tags are an important website component for catching the user's eye so be careful how you use them

Use appropriate heading tags (<h1>) to emphasise important text, this is a visual cue to users that this text is important and could help them understand something about the type of content underneath the heading text. Use heading tags that users will search for in their search engine.

7. Make effective use of robots.txt

A robots.txt file tells search engines whether they can access and therefore crawl parts of your site. Keep a firm grasp on managing what info you do and don’t want being crawled.

8. Promote your website in the right ways

Effectively promoting your new content will lead to faster discovery by those who are interested in the same subject, make use of social media.

9. Learn how to optimise images on your site

Image related information can be provided for by using the 'alt' attribute. The 'alt' attribute allows you to write alternative text for the image if it cannot be displayed. Sometimes if a user is viewing your site on a browser that doesn’t support images, it is generally good to have alternative text which is displayed. You should also use brief, but descriptive file names for your images for Google to find.

10. Get listed in SEO friendly directories and create credible backlinks

Obtain a listing in DMOZ and Yahoo!. The more credible links back to your site the better.

*** Top Tip ***

An extremely useful document for finding even more SEO tips is Google's SEO Starter Guide. Some predict that Google+ will compete with Facebook as effectively as Android is competing with the iPhone.

This is Google's third stab at social networking after previous attempts failed to take off, however with The Times reporting “62 million people have a Google+ account” in December 2011, they are definitely starting to take 'social' seriously. The same report also states that Google+ “will have more than 400 million users by the end of 2012” asking the question will it overtake their apparent rival Facebook?

That’s certainly some news Mark Zuckerberg won't 'like'. Google+ does however have a way to go to take over the some 800 million users Facebook possess, however Google+ valiantly puts forward some advantages to the number one social networking giant.

3 Advantages of Google+

1. Circles

Facebook is scrutinised time after time for being too invasive and has a poor user privacy. Social networking is for communicating and sharing, yes? But sharing the right things with the right people can sometimes be a hassle. Google+ Circles make it easy to manage your contacts. By placing your contacts into certain circles the information you share is displayed to the relevant person for example family, friends, colleagues ect. If you using an account for business you have the ability to segment your audience into different markets, making it easy to manage and target them. Customers are more likely to respond when they are being exposed to marketing material which they find valuable and actually applies to them.

2. Hangouts

This is said to be just as good as Skype. This feature could be very useful for professionals and business colleagues as up to 10 people can participate in video chat at the same time. Other social networks could be accused of needing to catch up as many are limited video calling with just one person at a time. Another cool part of Hangouts is the ability to view a You Tube video whilst on a call.

3. The +1 Button

The +1 button basically gets conversation going. When clicking +1 you are publicly recommending pages across the web. You can also use the +1 button to share the content with the right circles on Google+. This feature allows users to “give something their public stamp of approval, so friends, contacts, and others can find the best content when searching the web”.

An Interesting Fact...Apple has a mobile operating system but no social network. On the other hand, Facebook has a social network, but no mobile operating system. Google has both!

No one can deny Facebook is considerably leading the social world, however at least Google doesn’t have to depend on Facebook for networking as they have now branched out with what can only be described as a success compared to Googles other attempts, Orkut and Buzz. This trend will surely see growth and a closer stab at dominance in the market is more reachable. Surely a social network growing at the rate of 625,000 users a day must be something to look out for? It is no secret that Google is in a race for with Facebook for web dominance, and over the coming months this will be something to examine.

Get In Touch

If you need help understanding your Google+ account for business 360fusion can help. They have been a hot topic in the tech world for the past year or so as more and more marketers are integrating them into their ad campaigns. For the generation growing up with smartphones, writing down product information, directions or business information is not an option. It is significantly more convenient to scan something and gain instant access to it, which is why these 2D barcodes are a new wave trending:

QR code uptake has increased 4589% from early 2010 to early 2011 56% of QR codes appear on product packaging

The worlds largest QR code was 159 square metres and created by Audi to commemorate 100 years of car manufacturing

The majority of users expect to receive a coupon off deal from scanning a QR code

11 out of 50 'Fortune' companies are incorporating QR codes into their marketing strategies

68% of QR codes are scanned via an iPhone , 26% by Android and 4% by BlackberryBrands such as Ford, Pepsi, Starbucks, Ralph Lauren and Lacoste has used QR codes in their advertising efforts

A little more than one out of four smartphone owners has scanned a bar code according to Compete's November 2010 research.

(sources: www.queaar.com, www.jumpscan.com)

Fad or here to stay?

The idea behind QR codes is to offer digital info and drive engagement with a brand, ultimately leading to interactions on a website or social site through mobile technologies. However, is the idea of QR codes just a novelty or is it actually helping to bridge the gap between offline and online media? It is your decision but I don’t see any real disadvantages to QR codes, they simply link users straight to a landing page. Anything which saves remembering long URLs and is something new and innovative is of interest to me!

Advantages

1. QR codes enable sharing and building a community around your brand. You can create discounts that are specific to the QR code, and run them in advertisements or post them in store, and turn them into 'Retweets' so that people share them with their followers on Twitter.

2. Customers expect coupons and special deals from QR codes. By creating 'virtual' coupons which can be redeemed online, customers who realise they will get something free/discounted are more likely to respond to your QR code

3. You can incorporate QR codes on basically anything from business cards, e newsletters, magazines, bus shelters, yellow pages directories even on someone’s t-shirt. QR codes can be used to send out event info, poll or survey customers, offer promotions or discounts, show a map or directions.

QR code tips and ideas

*tip for restaurants* Print a QR code on your customers bill. Link to your website showing them some interesting content: a message from the chef, daily specials, recipes or videos of cooking lessons, your restaurant history, promotional themed nights ie. Thursday Curry Nights, events, live bands or celebrations.

Make potential customers take 'action steps' on your social media sites. Whether your objective is to gain Facebook 'likes' and 'check-ins' or Twitter 'followers' make your QR code link to it.

Maps or directions – you can make “point and find” or “you are here” QR codes. *This can work well at events, theme parks, large shopping centres or complexes* – where someone might need specific guidance to get to something.

E-ticketing – with the ease of creating QR codes, you can issue e-tickets easily enough and have them scanned from your phone to enable access, *great for promoting events, nights, festivals, gigs, and concerts*.

If you are a company trying to create a database, or trying to collect customer information or opinions you could link the QR to a landing page where people exchange their contact info/customer opinions for a treat, or discount. Its a win-win situation – you are obtaining the vital and valuable info you need and the customer is gaining a discount.

***Top Tip***

If you want to read even more tips for QR Codes check out this artical: 50 Creative Uses of QR Codes in Marketing & Communications. The artical gives some great marketing ideas for all sectors of the market from museums to movie posters.

Virtual Tours VS Photographs

You wouldn’t send a letter when you could send an email, would you? Therefore why show a photo when you can show a virtual tour?

A popular service 360fusion offer is our high definition virtual tours. With well over 100 virtual tours in our portfolio, your business can be assured our professional photographer will offer you a quality, 360° panoramic view of basically any location in the world. 360° virtual tours are increasingly becoming an integral component of any dynamic website and recent statistics state that “a website with a 360° virtual tour and interactive media will receive 40% more views than a competitor's site that is lacking media”, (Pew Internet Life Study). If you want to compete effectively in the online market, then your business must adopt new modes of presenting your products and services.

10 reasons why virtual tours are increasingly more advantageous than photographs:

Constantly accessible: Makes the premises or location viewable 24 hours a day, 7 days a week – a permanent open house.

Extended browsing: Keeps visitors on your website for longer. A lengthened viewing time will promote an increased customer response. In the online market you will have a greater chance of success if your website can engage visitors for longer periods of time.

Interaction: Visitors can engage and interact with your website. Customers may become bored of tedious albums packed with static photos. Interplay and communication is key.

Tech Savvy: A virtual tour shows your company is up to date digitally and keeping up with the increasing sophistication of computer technology. Stay one step ahead of competition!

Time Saving: Virtual tours save customers time travelling and viewing premises. For example, if viewing a property a customer could see it from the comfort of their home or office instead of taking the time out to book an appointment and view it in person. Virtual tours serve as a time saving convenience for internet users.

International Opportunities: Virtual tours make it easy for long distance or international prospects to get an idea of your business or organisation. For example, if an international student is researching universities in the UK they may not be able to attend a campus tour. A virtual tour would be the next best thing to get an idea of your universities facilitates and culture.

Customer Assurance: If customers are spending a significant amount of money on a product or service eg. property or place at university, a virtual tour allows them to keep viewing as many times as they want during their decision making process. Property Week states that, “Properties complete with virtual tours are, on average clicked 10 times more than those that do not offer the service”.

Branding: A virtual tour can be designed around your brand and website image. No tour 360fusion produce look the same. We custom design the tour skin and feel of the tour around your brand which reiterates your brand image to customers. This makes your tour unique and the only one of its kind.

Retention: A compelling use of virtual tour technology will keep visitors coming back to your site. If they enjoyed your content and found your virtual tour interesting they are likely to re-visit and check out your other products or services.

Increased Internet Use: “19 million UK households (77%) now have an internet connection (up from 73% in 2010) and a total of 41.26 million adults (82.3%) have used the internet,” (The Office for National Statistics 2011). Market factors show more and more people are on the web so the opportunity is there to optimise your website and make it interesting!

Whether it be visiting or previewing colleges and universities, tourist and vacation locales, historical sites, museums or real estate and hotels, 360fusion offer high resolution imaging that takes your visitors on a true sensory journey.

To view some examples of the virtual tours 360fusion have put together, please view our portfolio. However in 2003, LinkedIn saw a substantial gap in the market for a much more professional and business orientated approach and are now, almost 10 years in and hugely surpassing MySpace, and are an established and popular social network in their own right.

Over 135 million professionals use LinkedIn's professional network to exchange information, ideas and opportunities. Their slogan of “Relationships Matter” couldn’t be more true in today's world as no business exists in a vacuum and relationship marketing is a key ingredient for successful trade and commerce.

After extremely slowly catching up in the professional networking world this week I made a LinkedIn account and found it intriguing just how fast you can build up your business connections. After just a few hours I had built up contacts from the digital, marketing, advertising and business world who, in the future, could quite possibly become useful business connections.

If you already have an account, update it, post something inspiring or interesting – engage with people! By making sure your profile is complete and packed with contacts and previous jobs, education and references you will gain what is called a 'top' profile. LinkedIn will then give visitors a full picture of your professional history.

It is also essential to publicise your LinkedIn URL on every possible touch point (especially if you have made a company profile for business purposes). This includes your marketing collateral, your business card, in your email signature, sign-off line in your email newsletters, have the link on your website, flyers and brochures... basically anywhere that customers, prospects, potential employers, business associates and partners can learn more about the professional side of you and your business.

LinkedIn has grown leaps and bounds in recent months and it could be argued it is now the beacon of the professional social networking niche. It has rightly established itself as the worlds most powerful professional network and rightfully so with a reported 135 million users.

Therefore if you want to succeed in the business world and want an easy way to make professional relationships I would suggest making a LinkedIn account if you haven't already done so! Surely singing up to 1 more social media network can't harm you, can it?

*** Top Tip ***

If you want some extra info about LinkedIn for business check out this Mashable Blog: 5 Ways to Market Your Brand on LinkedIn.

Daisy Chain Charity Website Now Live

After a lot of hard work the 360fusion team have done it again! Twitter is an online social networking and micro blogging service that enables its users to send and read text-based posts of up to 140 characters. These characters are more popularly known as “tweets” and the main benefit of the word limit is the fact the content must be kept extremely concise and to the point.

Twitter is extremely conversational and the increase in smartphones and Twitter applications means customers or potential customers can be contacted instantly. Twitter is a constant stream of communications and a great marketing resource for your business.

Twitter for business

The primary function in using Twitter for business is to help drive repeat customers, create word of mouth and build relationships. It is best used in the long term to build brand image. If you are constantly trying to drive direct sales then Twitter is not for you. Posting endless amounts of self promotional tweets for instance your website link, phone number, product info, will bore customers and drive them to “unfollow” you. If used correctly Twitter can give you the following advantages:
1. Your business can gain a great insight in to what people think about your products and services by asking them questions – people love to give their opinions
2. If you haven’t already done so, creating a page for your business on Facebook is simple and free. As said in the previous blog about social media, Facebook as social media platform is a brilliant, instant way you can converse with your audience, gain customer feedback and distribute news and content to your customers at the click of a button.

5 Facebook do's and dont's for your business

Do:
1. Make your status updates and other content share worthy
2. Link back and refer to your corporate website and other social network platforms (however not too much!)
3. Be responsive and pro-active to related news and articles – spark debate and keep and eye on other things going on in your industry
4. Respond quickly and positively to negative posts and criticism
5. Connect on a personal level and be transparent – humanise your brand and be personable

Don’t:
1. Don’t bombard your customers with too much self promotion – don’t turn their “walls into malls”
2. Don't be under the impression Facebook is free and easy – it may not require any capital investment from your business but it requires sufficient time to write the content and be responsive to posts and questions
3. Don't start with a clear strategy then become bored and disinterested
4. Don't turn your Facebook page into a watered down version of your website
5. Social media can be used for a number of reasons including communication, information, multimedia, entertainment, and commerce shared socially.

Market Factors
Market factors are highly in favour of this booming technology and with smartphone adoption prospering in the UK, more consumers will be accessing social networks via their mobile devices.

Businesses should use social media to interact and engage with their customers. Social media platforms should not be used as an advertising billboard flooding members with one way messages, but rather a medium to communicate and network. With Mintel, 2011 stating “2 in 3 social network users agree they rarely pay attention to adverts on social networking sites” if your page looks like one big promotional poster people will become uninterested and “unlike” or “unfollow” your page.

Business Users
Its not just the general public and advertisers who are getting amongst the social media buzz more and more businesses are getting involved. According to the 2010 Social Media Marketing Report, 67% of marketers plan to increase their use to social media channels including blogs, Twitter and Facebook.

For many businesses social media gives the advantage of: efficiently humanising a brand, communicating messages quickly (and to most peoples delight free of charge!), gaining quality customer feedback, offering discounts and also building up links to optimise SEO.

Spending time on social media communicating with your audience and creating a community around your business will mean, more customers, more repeat customers, and more customer referrals.

Richard Branson on Social Media
“Well, it's not that hard to do, and it's fun to share what I'm doing and who I'm with – be it at a Carbon War Room meeting with climate wealth entrepreneurs, the Grand Prix with Rihanna, checking out Virgin Galactic space vehicles with future astronauts or raising money for the London Marathon – it's equally fun to hear immediately what people think. Social media overall – the comments on my blog, and Facebook, Twitter, allow me to hear what people are saying on a daily level about each business and the brand”.

Get In Touch
So you understand social media is great for your business? If Richard Branson can run more than 300 companies in 30 companies and still have time to tweet, so can you! The business has been established for a number of years and their boutique is situated on Yarm High Street. The client required a website which was attractive, stylish and could bring in online revenue alongside their store.

Therefore here in the 360fusion office our designers and developers have been working hard to create the new website for the lingerie and swimwear brand which we are delighted to say has recently been launched. We also integrated social media into the site so that customers could follow the business on Facebook and Twitter.

To find out more about our web design services or virtual tours please call 01642 688032 or 0787 080 3485 or email you enquire to contact us.

www.littlebrashop.co.uk

Deardens Website

360fusion is happy to announce that it has recently designed and developed the new website of product designer Nick Dearden.

Dearden spent the 1990s learning his craft whilst working for major design consultancies in New York and London, and he today offers services in product design and strategic branding to both start-up and established companies, creating world-class designs out of modest budgets.

Cool, Slick & Simple Website

Dearden came to us with an aim of creating a cool, slick and simple website that not only stood out, but which also allowed him to showcase his services in association with closely related products in his portfolio. This would make it easy for him to offer new services and to explain his services and philosophy to prospective clients, who would then be able to click through to a related item.

The Result

The final website allows visitors to share and promote Dearden’s services without him even doing anything, thanks to social media links to his RSS feed and Facebook, Twitter and YouTube profiles. We also decided to include videos and testimonials on the site, in addition to a blog that would allow Dearden to express his views on recent events in the product design industry. It is for this reason that there are now online menus that visitors can print off and save as a PDF file, with the PDF being generated from a database that ensures that there is no need for the hotel to upload or create any such files itself. This means that the hotel can simply upload its menus to the site once for people to download, rather than being forced to post them out every Christmas.

Website Features

The other features of The Wainstones Hotel’s new website include a virtual tour that makes it possible for visitors to explore the rooms of the hotel, much like those found on the websites of restaurants. Visitors can also keep up to date with the latest news, events and special offers, while there are also sections of the website devoted to the accommodation, the restaurant and bar and weddings and functions. The website also embraces social media, with links that allow the information on each page to be shared on Facebook or Twitter, in addition to a link to The Wainstones Hotel’s own Facebook page.

To find out more about web design services from 360fusion, just call us on 01642 688 032 or 0787 080 3485 or send us an email today!

Team Massive Results New Website

We are delighted to announce our design and development of the new website of Team Massive Results.
